OVERVIEW

About the Sartitrha project

Sartitrha started as a news website and grew into a large cultural and practical portal. News is collected from reputable sources, categorised and published with attribution, but the backbone of the site is its evergreen sections — pages people search for on Google every day and whose value does not fade over time.

The complete Quran with 6,236 verse pages, Persian translation and search in Arabic and Persian; a poetry library with the works of 237 classical poets; an archive of more than 1,200 Iranian names with meanings and origins and a special section of Shahnameh names; prayer times for more than 500 cities, Persian and lunar calendars, an astronomical calendar and the exact moment of the new year; Hafez divination with interpretations, personality tests, proverbs and live prices of 56 gold, coin and currency symbols. The Sartitrha Android app is connected to the same server.

Challenge

A new news website cannot stand out against big news agencies just by republishing news. It needed pages with lasting value that are searched every day — with zero tolerance for errors in the Quran text, poetry, astronomical calculations and prayer times, and fast enough to keep tens of thousands of pages light for users and Google.

Solution

The Quran and poetry texts were imported unchanged from reputable public sources, with the source shown on every page. Calendar, prayer-time, moon-phase and new-year calculations were implemented with standard astronomical algorithms and checked against official data. Every section has its own sitemap, pages are rendered with server-side caching, and the mobile version scores 90+ in Google's speed test.
